Global Business Security For Your Company Abroad

Global business security should be a concern if you own a business in a foreign country.

Why?

Because the U.S. State Department’s Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) claims that American businesses abroad are often targeted more than the federal government.

For this reason these businesses operating abroad should make security a top priority. Your business abroad should have some type of business security plan.

Not only is physical security important but so are personal security tips for your company's employees.

Often security experts refer to hard and soft targets.

Hard targets are locations where extreme business security systems have been implemented to prevent attacks.

Examples may include barricades, walls, fences, alarms, or the use of police officers or security guards around the perimeter to prevent unauthorized access.

Soft targets are the exact opposite. These locations have none or less of the above mentioned security measures.

Learn more about physical security measures here.

Criminals and terrorists prefer the latter. They are easier to access and require fewer resources to attack.

Since most federal government buildings abroad (i.e., embassies or consulates) are hard targets, the criminals and terrorists prefer to attack foreign businesses, which are usually soft targets.

Failure to take action to protect your employers working in foreign countries can also be a financial liability to the company.

An employee injured as the result of a criminal act or terrorist attack may choose to seek financial retribution after being injured.

Besides the threat of a lawsuit, it’s just the right thing to do by looking out for your employees. Many have either left their families or uprooted them in order to move long distances to help better the company.

Not only is the safety of employees and buildings important but so is business information security. This means having the necessary information security systems in place to protect your business's information.

Are you a business traveler who often travels abroad for work? Then some of these business travel safety tips will be important for you and your company.
