Prepaid Credit Cards
Prepaid credit cards are great to use while traveling abroad. They afford you the ability to use almost anywhere, since credit cards are accepted worldwide at most businesses, and they are safe.
Here how they work. Simply contact your bank or credit card company and ask to purchase a prepaid card. Next, deposit funds onto the card. Now you’re ready to use the card at any business that accepts regular credit cards. Travelers are also able to use the cards at
ATM machines
to withdraw funds. When funds run out simply re-contact the company and transfer additional money onto the card.
Now I know that some travelers may view this as time consuming, complex, or just a pain in the “you know what”; however, let’s see how a little planning in the beginning can save you a lot of trouble later.
In the event of a robbery where a criminal steals your card, he can only use the amount of funds on the card, illegally of course. Could you imagine the worry involved with having a regular credit card, with a limit of $20K, stolen? Who knows how much a thief could charge to your card before you have time to cancel it.
Travelers are less vulnerable to
credit card fraud
when using prepaid cards abroad. Once again, criminals will have access to fewer funds if you become a victim.
Lastly, if you accidently lose the card, you will not have to worry as much if you lost a regular credit card.
These are just a few ways that using prepaid cards versus regular credit cards can save you time and worries during your travels abroad.
