Quick Scams For Money

There are some many quick scams for money examples that target foreigners living or visiting abroad. The mediums used to scam travelers and expats range from face-to-face, telephone, and online just to include a few.

In fact there are some many scams out there that it would take a whole website just to describe them. Why are there so many scams? Well, some would argue that there are many criminals who prefer to steal from others rather than getting a normal job like the rest of us. Others would argue that the reward often outweighs the risk of getting caught. Lastly, some of these scams are so simple and do not require a lot of time to make some fast money.

So let us examine a couple of these quick scams for money that victimizes hundreds, if not thousands, each year.

Nigerian email scams

These scams are conducted via email and include criminals emailing victims claiming to offer large amounts of money for loans or financial assistance from victims. Usually victims’ bank accounts are cleaned out after they are tricked into emailing Nigerian criminals there account numbers. Perhaps the most famous of these scams are called 419 scams.

Internet Business Scams

These scams are supposedly business opportunities in foreign real estate, start-up companies, mining and oil companies, and stocks and bonds. Usually no such businesses are opportunities exist, it’s just a criminal trying to steal your money by taking advantage of greed. Sometimes the criminals offer large return on investment for risky investments they are pushing. Unfortunately, most of these are nothing for than tricks to steal your money and leave you broke.

Cell phone scams

Almost everyone you know probably has a cell phone. They are even more widespread and more used than computers. For this reason many criminals have come up with elaborate tricks to steal cell phone users’ cash.

One scam used by criminals is to use sophisticated electrical devices to steal your cell phone number. They then use your number, rack up charges, and send you the bill.

Russian Bride Scams

This is a trick that targets male travelers or expats in Russia. The victim is usually approached by an attractive Russian woman who compliments and flatters the male. Afterwards, she starts asking for large amounts of cash, jewelry, or other expensive gifts in exchange for marriage. The crime is also perpetrated via the internet thru online dating scams. Here males looking for companionship or love are contacted via email and asked to send large amounts of cash in exchange for future marriage.

Holiday Scams

These are tricks where criminals take advantage of the holiday seasons to scam giving and kind victims out of their cash. One of these scams involves a call from a person claiming to raise money for charity. The cause may be for poor families or needy children; however, these callers are actually criminals and do not represent any legitimate cause. They are solely looking to steal victims’ money, credit card information, and bank account numbers.

Modeling Scams

During this scam lone female travelers or expats are approached by a person who compliments their appearance and ask them if they want to model. Afterwards, one of two things happens to the victim. Either she goes to a location at a specific time and date, as instructed, for what she believes is a photo shoot and is later robbed or sexually assault. Another outcome involves the victim paying large amounts of money upfront for the photographer to contact publishers who can make sure her photos appear in the most popular magazines. Unfortunately, for the victim she is never published and loses all her money.

Pyramid Scams

These are complex tricks that involve a criminal getting numerous victims to sell items on behalf of a company, which is not really a company at all. The victim sells products at a higher rate than he/she purchased the item from someone else. In turn the victim (unknowingly) is encouraged to recruit others for the “business”. Unfortunately, the only person who makes money during this scam is the criminal at the top. Everyone else below him loses most of the hard earned money they invested to grow the business.

These are just a few of the quick scams for money out there victimizing people. Be on the look out for these and others. Remember, that getting rich and making money is not easy. If it seems too good to be true, then it probably is. Don’t for these get rich quick schemes. Also, by all means if you have been a victim or become a victim quick scams for money in the future remember that reporting internet scams and other scams is the only way to stop them and protect others from becoming victims.
