Appropriate Travel Clothing For Travel Abroad
What do travel clothing and travel safety have to do with each other?
Well, the clothing you wear abroad may determine if you are targeted by criminals for robbery or
kidnapping.
While traveling overseas foreigners have to do their best to blend in.
Expensive name brand clothing does nothing but attract criminals to you. Instead try to dress down and fit in. What are other wearing around you? Look around and see how you can best not attract the attention of criminals. Overseas you are what you wear. Many locals abroad have the misconception that all foreign visitors, especially Westerns, are wealthy. Therefore, the local criminals think they have lots of money to steal. Wearing the wrong type of clothing while overseas can further this stereotype and make you a victim of a crime.
What type of clothing you should travelers refrain from wearing?
- Expensive name brand clothing
- Clothing that signifies your home country
- Bright colors that make you stick out from a crowd
- Large hats that make you look like a tourist and block your peripheral vision
- Safari clothing in urban areas. This type of clothing makes you look like a tourist; therefore, making you a target
- A large sun hat. Again this makes you look like a tourist and also makes you stick out from a crowd.
There is clothing that travelers can wear that will not attract as much attention from local criminals. For example, try to wear what the locals are wearing. If most locals are simply wearing jeans and t-shirts then you should do the same. Wear shoes that are comfortable and that you can run in. This way in the event that need to quickly flee from a bad situation, you are able to do so. You won’t be able to hide the fact that you are a foreigner but at least you can try and fit in as much as possible. Trust me doing so will make life a lot easier during your travels abroad.
