Travel Safety For Kids

Travel safety for kids is a concern with a large numbers of expats around the world because many have families with children. Many also travel with kids around the world.

Protecting your children overseas is a priority; however, can be even more difficult in a foreign country.

Many criminals prey on foreign families by kidnapping the children for ransom. The criminals know that most foreign families have more access to funds for a ransom.

Below is information you should know to keep your children safe while abroad.

Make sure that you have some type of child identity card. This is a card with the child’s photograph, fingerprints, and biographical information.

Most police departments in the United States will provide this service free of charge.

However, you can also use child ID software like Sentry Kids for your home computer so you can do this yourself.

Teach your child a code word, in the event that he/she is kidnapped, to indicate that they are ok.

Teach your child how to answer the phone to make sure that they do not unintentionally provide criminals with too much information if they call your home.

Make sure that your children know how to contact local authorities in a foreign country.

Do the children speak enough of the local language to communicate the need for help?

Remember that foreign homes may not be constructed to the same safety standards as those in your country.

I found that many houses and apartments in Ecuador do not have electrical outlets which are grounded.
